We will be joined by three of the leading thinkers in this area of study, who will discuss whether Brexit will prove to be the catalyst to the creation of a British codified constitution.
Speakers:
– Professor Meg Russell: Meg Russell is Professor of British and Comparative Politics and Director of the Constitution Unit at UCL. Before joining UCL she was consultant to the Royal Commission on Reform of the House of Lords and from 2001 to 2003 was seconded as a full time advisor to Robin Cook in his role as a Leader of the House of Commons. Meg’s current areas of work involve Brexit, Parliament and the constitution as well as the role of citizen’s assemblies
– Professor Sionaidh Douglas-Scott: Sionaidh Douglas-Scott is a professor at Queen Mary, University of London and is the Anniversary Chair in Law. Previously, Sionaidh was Professor of European and Human Rights Law at the University of Oxford. Sionaidh is a member of the Advisory board for the Constitution Society, as well as for the International Society of Constitutional Law. Sionaidh has also been awarded a Leverhulme research fellowship to work on a project on Brexit and the British constitutional unsettlement.
– Dr Andrew Blick: Dr. Blick is Head of Department of Political Economy, King’s College London, where he is Reader in Politics and Contemporary History Dr. Blick was adviser to the Welsh Government in its intervention in the landmark Supreme Court Article 50 case of 2016. From 2010-15 he was research fellow to the first ever inquiry into the possibility of introducing a written constitution for the UK, carried out by the House of Commons Political and Constitutional Reform Committee.
