Union Organising in the Legal Sector
Join us for Junior Labour Lawyers’ Annual Conference Reception. The theme of this year’s Reception is trade union organising in the legal sector. As we continue to face the devastating effects of the Coalition Government’s cuts to legal aid, coupled with an ever increasing inequality in income and conditions between those working within the sector, the importance of representation and collective action has never been more important. We will be joined by members of the Shadow Cabinet and those directly involved in efforts to organise the sector – we look forward to seeing you there!

The Democratic Economy: From Radical Ambition to Legal Reality
Join us to discuss the legal and practical implications of the inclusive ownership fund policy announced by John McDonnell at last year’s party conference, as well as the wider public ownership agenda. We are delighted to co-host this event with Common Wealth, one of the leading voices in arguing for the importance of democratic and sustainable ownership for progressive economic policy. For many on the left, the inclusive ownership fund and proposed renationalisations mark a significant and welcome shift towards democratic economic reform. However, the inclusive ownership fund and wider public ownership agenda have been critiqued on a number of fronts. This panel discussion will be an opportunity to debate these challenges – have they been overstated by those who would likely oppose such policies in any form? Alternatively, do they present real obstacles to the implementation of such policies and the realisation of a more democratic economy?
